| 1. Tethering – tie off/securing tools, equipment and materials.
Requirement: Tethers must be used to tie off Tools, equipment, and materials for work undertaken on all working platforms and for work undertaken outside of the edge protection on permanent or temporary structures.
2. Gaps on “Auxiliary” Elements – gaps in scaffoldÂ
Requirements for fixed scaffold: No gaps ( vertically and horizontally) where objects can fall (except on working face) i.e must include fills, toe-boards, mesh on sides of all fixed scaffold. A structural engineers certificate must be supplied for all scaffold installed to these requirements.
Requirements for Mobile Scaffolds <4m: Mesh is not required to be installed, however, the following controls are required;
a. only competent persons can install mobile scaffold
b. mobile scaffold installation completion checklist
c. toe boards
d. tethering of tools and equipment.
3. Housekeeping
Requirements: A 3m radius surrounding the work area, which must be clear of unnecessary tools, debris, material or waste, unless they are tethered. A visual inspection to ensure compliance to this requirement should be undertaken to ensure compliance to this requirement should be undertaken at pre-start and end of works and before the scaffold or EWP is moved or adjusted.
4. Exclusion Zones
Requirements: Exclusion zones must be in a place and maintained. These must be of adequate size and take into account the potential arc of a fall of material, deflections and bounce distances. |
